Wylde CONNECTIONS supports The P&M Group in reaching the next stage of its sustainability strategy

Gloucester-based specialist construction subcontractor The P & M Group has worked with the Wylde team to launch its 2024 Sustainability Report. The business, which specialises in temperature-controlled buildings for the cold chain sector, is passionate about embedding ESG principles throughout its operations and its latest report highlights its key achievements over the last 12 months. As P&M continues to implement its strategy, Wylde’s consultants have also helped build the knowledge base by delivering sustainability strategy training to more than 30 Group managers and leaders.

Sustainability strategy

P&M is committed to helping cold chain operators reduce their carbon footprint by driving energy efficiency and sharing best practice with the wider construction sector. Since early 2022 Wylde Connections has worked with the Group as its trusted sustainability partner. The business embarked on Wylde’s Sustainability Strategy Complete Suite program, and we have continued to support the team on its journey in embracing ethical and responsible practice.

We have delivered our unique mix of consultancy, training and stakeholder engagement support to help maximise positive impacts on the triple bottom line of people, profit and planet. The Group’s latest report for 2024 was launched on Earth Day and marks a major milestone in driving decarbonisation and allowing customers to make more responsible choices. It charts the progress of P&M’s sustainability strategy Project Acorn, showcasing key achievements and setting out future ambitions.

In January 2023 P&M appointed Joanne Swift PIEMA as Group Sustainability Manager and she has since been working alongside our team to develop and implement a robust sustainability strategy that engages with stakeholders to maximise positive impacts. The report explores a range of initiatives over the last 12 months that have included establishing baseline greenhouse gas emissions, carrying out supply chain due diligence, promoting collaboration and raising awareness across the cold chain industry around how it might reduce its carbon footprint.

P&M’s staff have been fully engaged in ensuring Project Acorn maintains momentum. Be it sharing their ideas through a Staff Sustainability Survey, helping raise money to support a Community Interest Company that organises beach clean ups, or acting as STEM role models for school children, they continue to feed into the process.

Wylde is always on hand to support implementation and in April our team of consultants delivered a Sustainability Awareness for Managers training programme for 37 P&M employees. The workshop sessions covered a range of topics including understanding the fundamentals of sustainability, exploring leadership, stewardship and culture, and how to mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities. Wylde used simulated gameplay, case studies and group discussions to improve understanding and inspire managers to take the lead as sustainability champions.

P&M’s Chairman Andy Moon said: “We are delighted to have launched our new report and raised awareness through sustainability training. We have come a long way since we began working with Wylde and the impact has been truly transformative. We believe that the small steps we take today will help have an impact on the planet, society and communities in the future. We’re all excited about continuing that journey.”

Wylde will now help P&M meet the objectives set out in its Road Map, be it continuing to develop a carbon reduction strategy, finding new ways to track waste or delivering sustainability training across the workforce.
