Go Wylde with No Mow May 2024
The UK has lost around 97% of flower-rich meadows since the 1930’s. Pollinators like bees and butterflies need access to wild spaces. Over the next month why not help them out by crossing lawn mowing off your list of chores and giving nature space to thrive.
We are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis and one in six UK species are at risk of extinction. Play your part in addressing the issue by being nature positive. A healthy lawn with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution and can even lock away carbon below ground.
There are more than 20 million gardens in the UK and whatever the size of your outdoor space, you can have a major impact on biodiversity by liberating your lawn. Plantlife’s No Mow May movement continues to gain momentum as gardeners and green space managers around the world come together to stop mowing and letting wildflowers grow to support pollinators, tackle pollution and help combat climate change.
On a single day in summer, one acre of wildflower meadow can contain 3 million flowers and produce 1 kg of nectar sugar for pollinators. Whether it is your private garden or a patch of green space outside of your office, spend the month of May letting nature take over.
Plantlife is calling for people to register their lawn or green space and leave it to flourish. You can also support the movement by sharing information and the progress of your lawn on social media using #NoMowMay.
At Wylde Connections we work with a range of organisations to put sustainability at the heart of their strategy. As well as focusing on reducing negative impacts, we spend much of our time supporting clients to be regenerative and treat nature as a key stakeholder. Read our eBook, The Business of Biodiversity, to learn more about the importance of making space for nature.
