Wylde helps The P&M Group Scoop Sustainability Award

Gloucester-based construction subcontractor The P & M Group has come up trumps at the Cold Chain Federation’s Sustainability Awards 2023. Wylde began working with the business last year, offering support on its sustainability journey. Those efforts have now been recognised at an inaugural awards ceremony celebrating the great work underway to drive energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The P & M Group was named Cold Chain Climate Champion at the Cold Chain Federation’s Climate Summit at Warwick University. Comprising nine awards, the event is designed to acknowledge the great strides taken by the sector to tackle the challenges of climate crisis. The group received the award in recognition of its sustainability drive and commitment to green supply chains and delivering net zero buildings.

The business has worked closely with a major customer on reducing project emissions and is now exploring trialling the use of alternative renewable energy fuels in site plant. This is just one of the many measures that the business is taking as part of implementing its sustainability Road Map, more detail of which can be found in their sustainability strategy report available at pandm.co.uk/sustainability.

In 2022, The P & M Group appointed Wylde Connections as its trusted sustainability partner. Our team has helped draw up a comprehensive sustainability strategy. The detailed action plan will now help guide the group on its journey, looking beyond reducing negative impacts to making a positive contribution to people, profit and planet.

Measures include implementing a greenhouse gas emissions benchmarking and reduction plan, a full supply chain audit and best practice review, and a measurable waste reduction programme which includes a drive for the re-use of materials.

Wylde is also supporting the Group in thinking more holistically about sustainable business practice. Alongside its environmental commitments, The P & M Group is facilitating a roll out of social value activities to attract more talent into the construction industry, particularly underrepresented groups such as women.

The P & M Group’s recently appointed Group Sustainability Manager Joanne Moore picked up the award. She said: “When you work so hard on something, sometimes you don’t realise what you have achieved until you put it all together. We’re really pleased we entered and are honoured to be chosen as the winners of this award. It’s been such a team effort, everyone from the Chairman to the factory floor has been on board.”

Wylde Connections Managing Director Dr Denise Taylor commented: “The P & M Group are a great example of a business that is fully embracing sustainability and embedding it throughout the organisation. They are working hard not only to drive change across their own business, but also influence the sector as a whole, forming partnerships and demonstrating best practice.”
