Q&A – Get to Know Charlotte Taylor, Our Operations Director

What inspired you to start working in the world of sustainability?

My passion for sustainability stems from my involvement in Denise’s environmental work since I was a young girl. Travelling to many different wildlife conservation projects across the world throughout my childhood and seeing the importance of this work first hand has given me the drive in my adult life to make the world a better place. Having the opportunity now to work alongside my mother and our wonderful Wylde team to help businesses do and be better inspires me every day.

Describe a typical working day at Wylde.

A working day at Wylde is never typical! As a family-run business with a small in-house team, we all wear many hats in our day-to-day work. But that’s what makes it so fun and enjoyable, as no day is the same. Most days I work from home on various projects (which I love as it means I can stay in my pyjamas all day!), and we meet with the wider Wylde team, who are located across the country, about once every fortnight.

What do you find most satisfying about your job?

Clients don’t often see me during their projects with us as my role tends to be in the background, but I’m there celebrating every win and milestone they achieve! I love seeing the difference that our work is making, no matter how big or small. We get to work with some amazing businesses, and it’s always very satisfying to see the positive impacts they are having on the world around them.

What one message would you give to business about embracing sustainability?

Something we always say to our clients: it’s a journey, not a destination. Taking the first step towards embracing sustainability is the most important one, and becoming a sustainable business won’t happen overnight, but we are committed to helping as many businesses as we can to get started on their journey and begin to move in the right direction. We all have a responsibility as business owners to make the right decisions for those who are impacted by what we do, and we are all on this journey together.

How would you spend your ideal Sunday?

My weekends are often very busy with West African drumming and taking part in workshops all over the country. When I do get a spare Sunday I like to relax, maybe practice some of my other instruments such as balafon and kamele ngoni, and catch up on some TV time (I’ve just finished all 21 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. I’m not quite sure what to do with myself now, suggestions are welcome).

What’s your favourite guilty pleasure?

Rewatching the same TV shows from my teen years. Even though they are not the greatest in terms of plot and general script writing, I still never get bored. Seriously, any suggestions for good bingeable TV shows are encouraged!
